Music living-learning community
A living-learning community to support students in a successful transition to college and give music students an edge in the classroom and their careers.
WHAT IS THE MUSIC LIVING-LEARNING COMMUNITY?
The music living-learning community is a group of students involved in music. Students in the Grand View Choir or the Wind Ensemble live near one another – freshmen on one floor and upper classmen in a nearby residence hall. The living-learning community is for active, involved music students (regardless of major) who wish to dig deeper into their music and the music life in Des Moines. Students will form a bond with other musicians and learn to prioritize and manage their personal and academic life, as well as build interpersonal relationships with peers and professors. It’s a great way to find people you can relate to from the moment you arrive on campus.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Develop an instant network of support from peers and music faculty members.
Learn how to balance your music-making with other important aspects of college.
Form a community that can help you be a better musician.
Gain valuable advice and mentoring from upper classmen who are also student musicians.
WHO CAN LIVE IN THE MUSIC LIVING-LEARNING COMMUNITY?
Any student participating in the Grand View Choir or Wind Ensemble and interested in developing their musical, academic, and social strengths.
IS THERE A COST?
There is an additional $50 fee per semester to live in the Music Living-Learning Community. This fee will help cover the cost of concerts and events.
